Job Description
A Summer STEM Instructor supports educational STEM camps (age ranges 5-7; 7-12; 12-14) for 3-5 days per week at our makerspace in Littleton, NH. This leadership role involves assisting WMSI program instructors with camp facilitation, including the design of new and exciting camp activities. Additionally, a Summer STEM Instructor is involved in supporting campers with hands-on STEM projects, as well as providing a welcoming and fun learning environment. This position also includes set-up and clean-up of camp programs, program reflection, and the ability to work as a team member. There are growth opportunities in this position, including additional responsibilities over time. Must be at least 14 years of age to apply. Duties Will Include:

  • Support of on-site and (occasionally) off-site STEM-based camps for elementary and middle school students, 3-5 days per week

  • Supervision of campers, maintaining a safe and organized learning environment

  • Assist with hands-on activities and mentor campers, providing guidance and encouragement

  • Organization & maintenance of program-related resources & equipment

  • Collaboration and effective communication with the WMSI team, working closely with lead instructors and other staff

  • Participation in any necessary instructor training(s)

  • Support in the design and planning of camp activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience working with children - preferred

  • Desire to work with children - essential

  • Ability to support and empower campers in the creative problem-solving process - essential

  • Ability to set a positive environment within a room - essential

  • Prior experience and/or interest in science, technology, engineering, and math - preferred

  • A team player who is willing to learn from mistakes and adapt

  • Motivated to improve as an instructor

Schedule:

  • Start date in mid-June 2024

  • End date in mid-late August 2024

  • Seasonal part-time position (approx. 30 hours per week), generally 8:30AM-2:30PM, 3-5 days per week

  • Occasional off-site camps possible, which could fall outside the time window above (these would be prearranged and clearly communicated by your supervisor)

Job Compensation:

  • Starting pay rate $13-16 per hour

Physical Exertion Environmental Conditions 
Required to sit for extended periods of time, stand frequently, use fine motor skills to operate equipment, and lift and/or move 40 pounds or less.
