Job Title: STEAM Counselor (14+)

About WMSI: White Mountain Science, Inc. (WMSI - pronounced โ€˜whimsyโ€™), develops and delivers highly engaging STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs with the goal of teaching creative problem solving to students and teachers. 

Job Description:

A WMSI STEAM Counselor supports educational STEAM camps (age ranges 5-7; 7-12; 12-14) for 5 days per week at our makerspace in Littleton, NH. This leadership role involves assisting WMSI program instructors with camps. Additionally, a STEAM Counselor is involved in supporting campers with hands-on STEAM projects, as well as providing a welcoming and fun learning environment. This position also includes set-up and clean-up of camp programs, program reflection, and the ability to work as a team member. There are growth opportunities in this position, including additional responsibilities over time. Must be at least 14 years of age to apply.

Salary Range: $13-15/hr

Duties Will Include:

  • Assisting with on-site STEAM-based camps for elementary and middle school students.

  • Assisting with supervision of campers, maintaining a safe and organized playful environment

  • Preparation of lesson materials and hands-on activities 

  • Mentorship of campers, providing guidance and encouragement

  • Organization & maintenance of program-related resources & equipment

  • Collaboration and effective communication with the WMSI team, working closely with lead staff 

  • Participate in any necessary instructor training(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience working with children - preferred

  • Desire to work with children - essential

  • Ability to support and empower campers in the creative problem-solving process - essential

  • Ability to set a positive environment within a room - essential

  • Prior experience and/or interest in science, technology, engineering, and math - preferred

  • A team player who is willing to learn from mistakes and adapt

  • Motivated to improve as an instructor

Schedule:

  • Paid Training June 15th-17th

  • Camps start in mid-June 2026 and run through mid-late August 2026.

  • Generally 20-25 hours per week, typically 8:30am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm, 5 days/week.

Physical Exertion Environmental Conditions: 

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time, stand frequently, use fine motor skills to operate equipment, and lift and/or move 40 pounds or less.
